Psychotherapy

I believe that a crucial aspect of any “good” therapy is that it helps you expand your curiosity and open-mindedness about yourself – who you have been, who you are, and who you would like to be.  Psychodynamic psychotherapy, often called insight-oriented, depth, or exploratory therapy, helps us to make these important connections so that we may better understand how the past is repeated in the present, giving shape to and sometimes compounding our struggles.  There is a respect for the unconscious in all of us, that part of our experience that lies outside of our immediate awareness but may show up in our "automatic" behaviors, our assumptions about how others will interact with us, our sense of what's inevitable about life, our dreams.  Typically meeting once a week, we may attend to the "here and now" of the therapy relationship as a space where we can see, experience, reflect on, and work through the troubles that bring you to therapy.

As a therapist, I always aim to listen with a commitment to my own openness, mindful of our shared humanity.  I engage deeply and collaboratively with individuals’ struggles, fears, and hopes.  My hope is that if you come to me for help, you will feel understood, accepted, and as needed, respectfully challenged, always in the service of supporting you in living your most liberating and satisfying life.
